I helped a friend remove the electronics from one a few years ago when he
was looking at converting it to scale. From what I remember, all wheels
pick up power from the track. Each driver had a spring-loaded wiper on the
back of the wheels. The tender picks up power separately for the sound
unit. The only connection between the two was the optical chuff sync.

Subject: {S-Scale List} Lionel / AF Mikado

I have a question / problem??

Where does the subject steam engine pick up it's power from the track?
I have ckecked mine and, it seems to only be picking up power @ the rear /
trailing truck..
Is this for real, if so - is there any way to improve the electrical
pick-up?

On the same note..
Does anyone run their Mikado on AM turnouts - I have a lot of dead spots as
I cross the turnout - any known / easy fixes?
(short jumper wires, PCB ties, or whatever else)

Thanks for any help in making a HAPPY HOLIDAY for this frustrated Lionel
owner/ operator.
