Lindsay actually went back to the early 1950's, primarily manufacturing a very
small motor, smaller than the Pittman DC-60, whichwas the previously smallest
DC motor available to model railroaders. They developed a TT B&O dockside and
a small gas-mechanicalcritter and several repowering drives for other HO
diesels, such as the Varney. Off the top of my head I think they also did a
lost-waxset of parts for an HO NW-2, designed to use their proprietary drive
(Bill Ryan of PFM started with John Allen slides and his first import,I think,
was Lindsay NW-2 kits assembled in Japan). They were bought out by Kemtron by
the late 1950's.
Cascade drives use Lindsay HO gearboxes adapted with brass tubing and a
fabricated drive tower using standard delrin chain. I owntwo Miller Alcos with
Cascade drives--one with the premium lost-wax AAR sideframes (I think sold by
G&W?--can't recall if anyone has mentioned who produced them for G&W), the
other with LWS white-metal AAR sideframes from Jan Lorenzen's EMD switcherkit.
I am trying to fit a set of Blunts to the latter (bought from Dick, as
Railmaster won't sell them separately), one of those projectssitting on the
back of the workbench. I also bought a complete Cascade repower kit for the AF
PA/PB set, figuring that the drive componentswere worth what I paid for it,
even if I never convert an AF set (and I probably won't, given what the shells
seem to go for, and that Ireally have no use for passenger diesels).
