Jim, Not an expert on appraising am I, but some guidelines for determining the value of any vintage photography, train subjects or otherwise:
-If the photographer was famous, such as O. Winston Link, the value of a given image goes up exponentially. -If the subject is of historical interest or importance, such as Lincoln, the value goes up. Sounds to me as if you are actually asking a tax question. My best thought is to talk with a qualified tax advisor who will know the IRS guidelines regarding the allowed deductable amounts on ³common² vintage negatives. As you mention in your post, perhaps someone on the list has direct experience with such donations. Good luck :) Roy Inman From: Jim Kindraka <[email protected]> Reply-To: S-Scale <[email protected]> Date: Sat, 10 Dec 2011 18:22:50 -0600 To: S-Scale <[email protected]> Subject: {S-Scale List} Photo Negative Appraisal Question Does anyone have any experience with appraisals of older photographic negatives? I have a large negative collection, mainly 4x5 and 616 format negatives from the 40's. It's all NYC and predominantly steam. I've posted a couple prints I've done. Just trying to get some idea of a relative value prior to donating it to the historical society. Thought I would see if anyone on this forum had experience with appraising such things... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/S-Scale/photos/album/1226119013/pic/869537494/ view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=21&count=20&dir=asc Jim Kindraka Plymouth, WI [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
