Hi all --
My SLE&P (sg) and CCC (ng) are both fictional, but based on the typical
scenario of the narrow gauge supplying the standard gauge with loads to take
away to the broader market. As far as I know, all the narrow gauge railroads
were built with this in mind once it was realized that there would be no
transcontinental narrow gauge roads (the Rio Grande came close in going from
Denver to Salt Lake, but that lasted only a few years...).
My CCC uses revamped Athearn 2 bay hoppers of imagineered design, but they are
convincing. I also have some of the Chicago Models hoppers to build. Had PBL
ever come out with the EBT’s big mikes (15-18), I would have swapped out most
of my CO prototype models for them. Or had Bill Wade done them, I would
probably still have made the swap. Unfortunately, his EBT power choices did
not suit my style...
I, too, would like to see photos of Dave’s coal facilities.
Not much got done on the layout the last two weeks as I was left alone by my
wife who had to run off to CA to take care of her parents’ estate. You would
think that was bonanza time, but in reality this is the time around here when
you have to clean up the fall leaf mess and prune the trees and bushes.
Between that, taking care of other house chores and getting the Christmas cards
out, I had practically no train time. I DID manage to spruce up my foam core
mock-up of the passenger station with a real roof (as opposed to imaginary),
and I think I like how it came out. Now I just have to set up the passenger
canopies either side of the building. Once all is satisfactory, a real
structure will be built.
I hope everyone is ready for the fat man in the red suit!

Mine's freelanced and was on my old layout. I didn't build a model of the
Chance plant or its predecessor. I basically used a Lehigh Valley Models
breaker kit (all three kits), but I essentially built a new larger unloading
shed. Frank Titman had designed the unloading shed for the small mine cars,
but I built mine large enough to handle two tracks with narrow gauge hopper
cars. The enclosed conveyor from the unloading shed to the breaker proper
was essentially the stock kit. It also works for my new space and is
smaller than a scale model of the plant at Mt. Union. ...
