Whether one sees the NMRA as a monster is beside the point. The NMRA
offers so much in education at their conventions. I hope we will have many
joint NASG / NMRA Conventions in the future so that we as S Scalers can attend
the clinics on DCC and related electronics, especially signaling. Has the
2013 NASG convention been set? Why not hook up with the NMRA in Atlanta.
Yes I know it does not make sense to have two consecutive NASGs as close
as Chattanooga and Atlanta. Still, I would like to see it. In fact I would
like to see every NASG convention joint with NMRA. I need the NMRA
clinics, I want to see our S friends that go to NASG, and I cannot afford to
be
going to both conventions if they are not joint.

The NMRA does offer an Sn3 gage, but not a standard S gauge gage. One
reason for that is because the gage is already available from the NASG. I
don't
see why that makes the NMRA a bad monster. Why duplicate something that
already exists and perhaps take the profits away from NASG?

Years ago, I suggested NASG sell the standard gauge gage to the NMRA for
resale to their members. To the best of my knowledge, which could be
incomplete, I don't think anyone from NASG approached the NMRA with that
proposal.

However, I seem to recall a recent announcement that the NMRA and the NASG
will swap gages to each other so that both organizations can benefit by
selling both gages. Sounds like a reasonably decent cooperative arrangement
to me.

Just a thought....Ed L.
