Once the NASG and the NMRA accepted the new/improved standards over 20 years 
ago, the older smaller NMRA gage was no longer correct for anything.  I owned 
two of them and built my first S scale layout using them. That original layout 
worked fine.  My current layout was built to the new standards and the old NMRA 
gage now rests peacefully in a drawer.  It served its purpose well at the time 
and I am glad I had it.  The new layout works even finer.  Ed L.
