I'd like to try something, but don't have the part.. If an HO switch track were
partially disassembled and mounted vertically between the rails of an S scale
track, would the frog be strong enough to uncouple cars? If the frog rail were
to be weighed down some, would it fall back down or would you have to flip the
switch to raise/lower it? It'd be a fairly large cavity to hollow out for the
mechanism to fit, but nearly invisible afterwards, the remaining frog rail
could be painted to match your roadbed. I even thought about using an N scale
switch frog, but don't know if it'd be strong enough to lift AF compatable
couplers. If I had the cash, I'd go magnamatic, but I don't. If anyone has a
few small scale switches, let me know if this can work. Other cost-saving
uncoupler ideas also welcomed. I'm sure we could all use a few more uncoupling
spots on our layouts that don't cost a fortune.
