Except the LWS kit is not entirely brass--white metal detail castings. Does
yours have lost-wax trucks or just the LWS white-metal? TheCascade/Beveridge
drive, so far as I can tell, came both ways, with and without nice trucks. I
have a kit that is 95-98% complete, butas I own four or five SHS SW-9/9's (plus
four SW-1's and an NW-2--Don Thompson's sales have corrupted me thoroughly) it
may neverget built. Don Heimburger had one at S Fest that seemed quite
complete with some detailed instruction sheets (not a strong point in LWS
"kits,"known to old-timers as "the closest thing to scratchbuilding.") from
what seemed to be an extended review (from S Herald?). The pricestruck me as
very fair, and I almost bought it just for the instructions.
I shall need to meditate on the X29, wondering how close we are to seeing the
SSA/DPH one, which will not only be far easier to get on therails (I have four
or five of the Train Stuff more-modern freight car kits, which are fun to
fondle and read instruction sheets, but I suspect will not be nearly so much
fun to start building) but probably somewhat more accurate for the average
modeler.
