Until Stan Stokrocki brought it up, I had almost forgotten about Amfleet
cars. They are not part of my era of modeling. I never have liked the way
they look. I prefer the looks of trains from the 1950s and 1960s. I think
the Amfleet cars are of interest to a minority of S modelers.

Living in Nashville, I rarely see Amfleet cars or any Amtrak (though I did
ride Denver-Sacramento last summer). And I think I have a bias against
them because the first Amfleet cars were so harshly criticized. It was not
their looks (which I do not like), it was their cramped and uncomfortable
seats. Amtrak remedied that with the Amfleet II cars but I guess I still
have that bias against them.

For those who grew up with Amtrak and Amfleet cars, its a legitimate
"want". My guess is that the cars will become available in S at or about at
the
same time as Genesis diesels and modern Amtrak Electrics.
If a manufacturer offers Amfleet cars, they probably will of Metroliner
trains as well.

I wonder how many S scale modelers are interested in Amfleet, Metroliners,
Genesis diesels, and Amtrak Electrics, etc.? We have seen discussion on
this list about the need for modern freight cars and diesels (freight). Has
there been much discussion of modern Amtrak equipment?

Nevermind... after a re-read, I see what I missed in your message. But
that still doesn't address the cores for such cars as the AmFleet cars others
have asked about.

Sorry about the oversight... chock it up to bad eyesight.

Thanks.

Thanks Bob... good info.

But what is being done for CORE kits? Sides are worthless without
cores... and trucks, too... what about them?

John...

Good news for you! Guess who custom makes the Supply Car S Scale
sides...Mark at Union Station Products. We have him custom mil them to our
"S"
specifications for the AM core shells. Hint: they do not convert directly
to S from HO.

The Supply Car has the exclusive rights to any USP sides done in S scale.
They are available only in our complete kits (with or without AM core).
Essentially, if the car is on the USP HO website list, it can be done in S.
Any car that is not on the USP website can also be done if it is listed in
either the BUDD or P/S - ACF Red Books. Even then, if not, you only need
to supply copies of plans or photos to Bob and it can still be produced.

If you are creative, you can build shorter/longer than the AM 81' cars
(that's what Earl is now doing) and even two and three unit articulated cars
(ex: Espee). That 12 car California Zephyr train featured in the U Tube
video on Steve Doyle's layout was built from The Supply Car kits, including
the 73' baggage.

They really are fairly easy to build and give you something unique in S
when you are done.

Enjoy! Bob Hogan

(_http://unionstationproducts.com_ (http://unionstationproducts.com/) ). I
sincerely hope to see such a source rear it's head for S scale modelers.

LLC (Bob McCarthy), there are not too many passenger cars we cannot have
in S if we are willing to build and decorate them.
