George,
This is part of a responce about the same subject WRT signal detectors:

As to lights. the reason your sensor don't do well, is that most fluorescent
bulbs lack the color red. A few options available are. Buy a bulb that is for
Kitchens, as they have some red in them. If you notice that the lights in the
produce section of your market are different that the rest of the store, is for
the same reason. the increase in the red part of the spectrum makes the produce
look better. Having worked with Motion Picture lighting, it is possible to
purchase either bulb covers, or gel sheets for the fixture bottom covers, if
yours have them, that increase the color temperature, or Kelvin rating to that
of the film being used. The higher the number (5000K) has more blue / green, as
opposed to (3200K) or less that shifts to the red / yellow side of the
spectrum, and move towards the infrared which the sensors require to work
properly.

On another group I read a post expressing some concern that flourescent lights
might cause problems with infra-red detection systems. This is a first for me.
Anyone using flourescents and infra-reds?
