A general rule of thumb is 2 inches for HO, 3 inches for S, and 4 inches for O 
scales. If the curves are sharp and the cars long a little extra spacing on the 
curves might be necessary and if the space is tight a little closer spacing on 
the straights might help. .......DaveBranum
