Ironically, the still extant E-6 630 and E-8 652 were seen in a similar light.
They are in Kansas City awaiting prep. for move to Manly, Iowa.

They probably lasted that long only because the Rock had cash-flow problems.

The RI units were traded to EMD in 6-65. The trucks may have been recycled
for use under a GP35. DJE

Perhaps not quite ten percent of the total--which was never large (but a
lot more survivors of the class than much more
numerous and more famous steam locomotives, perhaps the most conspicuous
instance the NYC Hudson). I don't think
any B&M or C&EI or Rock Island units survived. BL-2's were poor resale
candidates to other roads, so most ended
    up as EMD trade-ins.

There are 3 or 4 BLs still around.

A Western Maryland unit is still earning its keep in Belington WV doing
freight and passenger service on the West Virginia Central. As with much of
the WVC equipment, it is painted in correct WM colors.

WVC also runs an A-B-A set of Fs in WM and last year added a GP9 in B&O to
the roster. Tis like living in a time warp!
