HI Jim -- I had some fun this weekend gathering all the different styles of (running) boxcars I have to make a photo for Peter V. . Without getting into unbuilt kits there were over 20, and I think by the time I have all kits put together there will be over 30! And I don’t have any of the more modern or old time styles... (Who says there is nothing made for S?)
Anyhow, I pulled them all out of the industrial yard and added them to a train pulled by a RRM 2-8-4 and 2-10-4, no big deal there. The fun came when I pulled a couple of cars out of the train for a bit of lubing and tweaking and then put them back in. I started the whole train (42 cars) while it was fully on the hill (about 2%) without a lurch, a hiccup, just a slow smoooooth start. THAT was impressive! For all of you who think the money RRM charges for their models is excessive, one of those starts will change your mind. These locos have ball bearing gearboxes and expensive Maxon motors, and they are worth the cost. Have fun! Bill Winans Prescott Valley, AZ (where we have had record heat for the last two days – 85 and 87 degrees) ---------------------------------- I ran my RRM 0-6-0 for the first time on the DPV layout; very impressive but I could be biased!
