You are probably correct. The J1 is the first loco I ever had DCC & did not
do it myself.

 

I almost did and probably should have mentioned it as from the "same time
period" as the DSD.. I am sure that it is a sound unit only. That I
remember. That is also why we used the NCE for motor functions. The DSD was
becoming difficult to find in preparations for the Tsunami that took way too
long to be released. We were concerned with the amp rating of the DSD as
well. so went with the NCE.

 

I can say with complete satisfaction that the Tsunami has been up to
whatever task I have asked or loco I installed it in. Some of Jettie's
earlier steam locos had monster motors that may annoy or smoke the Tsunami
but I don't have any of them. The EM1 runs just fine with the Tsunami and no
smokey smokey.
