As best we know at this time, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum's newly
restored Southern Railway #630 (2-8-0) will be operating in Chattanooga on the
Weekend of the NASG. The #630 was returned to service in late 2011 after a
long restoration. One of the The 1904 ALCo is the current "star" of the
Norfolk Southern's revived "21st Century" steam program and will be joined by
famed Southern #4501 (2-8-2) soon. The national RR magazines have both
featured the #630 this spring. The #4501 is under restoration in the TVRM's
shops. Hopefully we will get to see this engine on tour as well.

The #630 will be operating on the "Missionary Ridge Local" making five
roundtrips on Saturday & Sunday. If things go as usual, it should also be
under steam at the shops on Friday for any last minute minor maintenance.
Weekday power is provided by one of TVRM's fine GP-7's. The trip operates
through a 1858 tunnel.

The NASG excursion train on Thursday to Chickamauga is our own special train
and is usually pulled by ex-Southern Railway GP-30 #2594 resplendent in
Southern Railway's green/white/gold livery. Not only is this a great rail
trip, it's a must for any Civil War (the War of Northern Aggression to many
folks down south) history buff. The battlefield and park visitors center are
well worth the time.

Also of interest is the TCRM's "Hiwassee River Rail Adventure". A restored
NC&StL GP-7 (in correct NC&StL livery) operates over former NC&StL trackage on
a 50 mile roundtrip that includes the famed Hiwassee Loop and some terrific
river views. This train operates from Etowah (a small town north of
Chattanooga) on all August weekends.

There's also the TVRM's collection of equipment at Chattanooga that is worth
seeing.
Check out their website at www.TVRail.com for complete details. TVRM is a
first class operation by any standard and is 50 years old!

There's lots to do & see in Chatanooga!!! More than you ever imagined.
