Wait until you install a full size Tsunami decoder in an 0-6-0 boiler, sets a
new standard for "tight fit". <G> I have become more adept at soldering very
short wires and using Miniatronics 2 and 3 pin connectors. That allows me to
separate the boiler from the frame without having to have extra wire to stuff
in. I guess by now I have so much scar tissue on my fingers from years of
soldering, that holding short wires close to the hot iron isn't as painful!

I also line the inside top of the boiler with double stick tape so wires will
be held up and away from the shaft. So far I have not had any "bad days" with
wires wrapped around drive shafts. I can sympathize with Bill L. though. I
installed a decoder in my SP 2-10-2, including the speaker in the smoke box.
Those locomotives have no hole in the stack since you use a screw for the
different stack options. I removed reamed out the stack casting and boiler for
the sound. It all fit, but hindsight says I should have gone with a bigger
bass reflex speaker in the tender instead. I am becoming more of a fan of
jewels instead of lights. Guess that is a bit lazy, but wiring the lights is
usually the biggest part of DCC installations...

On diesels, I have begun using the Tsunami TSU-GN, BW and AT decoders. They
are a heck of a lot easier to wire than dealing with that harness. Regrettably
they have limited sound applications and, to my knowledge, none are available
for steam... Just some thoughts...
