The week started at Terminal District when I removed the Back Lead and North
Pass switches from the North Main to rebuild them. They were working fine, but
being built from older switch kits with wood ties on shirt cardboard, I wanted
to upgrade them to my new and improved styrene switch block technology. This
should improve their long-term reliability, and ensure their survival for
re-use should I ever have to dismantle SHABBONA RR at some future date.

Also, the manual switch throws are (were) rather cumbersome due to being
located adjacent to these switches and required a reach over several tracks to
operate, so I want to move them to the outside of the bench work and operate
the switches with them using piano wire throw rod linkage.

At the same time, I am double-ending North Yard #1 yard track so I can use it
as a receiving track for inbound freight trains at Terminal District. Engines
will escape via a spring switch (made from an Atlas HO Customline #6 switch
converted to S) to the North Main at the West end to get to the Back Lead and
gain access to the engine facility. The spring switch may get a manual switch
throw, also, to override the normal position and allow for reverse movements
through the diverging route.

All of this will improve the flexibility of the Terminal District yard complex
and, especially with the recent double-ending of the Caboose Track, increase
its capacity. One Of These Days, I'll work up a track plan so others on this
list will know what I am talking about, but for now, I know where I am going,
just don't ask me how I'm getting there!

All this was abruptly interrupted by an overly insistent cardiologist who
insisted on a mid-week heart catheterization procedure for me, and more
untimely and inconvenient interruptions down the line. I'll try to keep
everybody posted on SHABBONA RR
