Alex,

You can get joint compound in dry bags....better than having is sour or if you 
get it in the box with the plastic liner...and you use some and then seal it 
back up ...the material on the liner will dry and next time will fall into the 
moist material and cause a real mess...

  Alex, One thing I didn't see covered was storing the mud. You can cover it 
with water before putting the lid on. This will help it stay soft. Simply pour 
the water off when you need to use it, then cover it again till you need it.
