I'm not sure why this thread came up (again). Nobody has yet said "you 
shouldn't buy the car". I'm glad Ron decided to start American Models to make S 
scale. While I'm also glad that PRS and SHS came along later with more accurate 
products, I still use AM products and fully realize the later models probably 
would not have been produced without the original success of AM.

None of which means people are not free to discuss these models and how well 
they match up to the prototypes we are modeling. If you aren't interested in 
the subject then I suggest the delete key. There are ALWAYS messages that don't 
interest some people; and the discussion of prototypes and quality of S 
products is clearly on-topic, more so than many comments that pop up here.

For your interest, I've attached a photo of an AM boxcar I'm converting to a 
KCS rebuilt car. Tom Baker placed a photo of his version inĀ  the photo albums 
some time back. I've also attached a photo of an SHS U.S.R.A. boxcar I detailed 
(to show that even the newer products can be improved). Extra credit if you can 
spot the changes.
