Whoah there, Ed. You left out rubber-band drive!
The NMRA X2f couldn't die fast enough. It was like a horse designed by a
committee, except not as successful. But, I think they're still kicking,
showing up on some below the bottom-of-line HO sets.
The Mantua loop was a reliable coupler for its time, as was the Baker. But,
they were both products of their time and that time has passed.
No matter how much financing would be behind it, I don't think today's modelers
would be retrofitting their equipment to Mantua loops. It lacks a certain
amount of realism that today's modelers seem to be fond of.
I don't know anything about System One, but I suspect it was simply obsoleted
by better technology.
And geeze... SHS isn't dead, just relocated and rebranded.
BTW, American Models track uses brass rail. Works quite well, too...
