Yet another good point... and if I may add to it...

Sergent couplers, because of the use of the magnet, are EASIER to uncouple at a
distance than Kadee or SHS couplers, because Kadee and SHS couplers require
that something be instered INTO the nuckles then twisted to uncouple them. The
Sergent couplers, however, only require that the magnet (which can be suspended
by a string from the end of a short rod (similar to a fishing pole rig) be
suspended ABOVE (without touching) the head of the coupler to attract the small
ball inside them. NO PRECISION REQUIRED for that... but you better have a much
more steady hand when inserting picks into Kadee and SHS couplers... if you can
reach them in the first place.

  Hi Ed;

  Sergent made a device called the "Brakeman", IIRC, that would ride on the car
or locomotive pilot as you positioned a car on a out of reach siding and hold
the coupler unlocked.

  Of course many modelers clip the trip pins on Kadee couplers (see the end
shot of my MILW car posted earlier). Those will not uncouple beyond reach
either.
