Morning guys and gals,
Peter Vanvliet and I have had a local discussion regarding some issues in the running qualities of some of our engines. In that process, I cracked open my AM SD-60. It had a factory DCC wiring harness that I've attached a Digitrax decoder. This decoder variation simply plugs into the harness without any wire, which isn't typical of any other decoder. It's just a 1 inch square chip with male connectors.
I said to myself, hey why not quickly install the rear light in this guy! Well, it turns out that the folks at AM have made that a bit tricky--the so-called wiring colors on the harness aren't standard. So to get things right, I've got to replace the decoder with one with a 'standard' colored harness, make sure that works, then trace the wires to AM's unique colors before I finally do my 15 minutes of work. Of course I'll then have to return the original decoder.
This is almost like government work! Bob Werre
