Don Heimberger's S magazine in the earlier days was a fairly well
balanced magazine with something for the hi-rail folks as well as, scale
and narrow gauge people. Two things effected his magazine. First the
decision to put the narrow gauge content into it's own magazine. Second
was the other scale magazines that competed for his scale content. What
was left was mostly hi-rail for a long time. So many who subscribed for
the 'scale' content left for the other magazines. Face it, I really
enjoy looking a great modeling of all kinds but the seemingly endless
discussions on the makeup of trainsets, shades of green for AF roofs was
getting a bit old not to mention speculation what Mr. Gilbert would have
done in those last bad years!
Don visited my layout a couple of years ago during the Sn3 Symposium and
took a mess of photos. We've finalized a track plan (wasn't easy) and I
shot a cover, so I assume it'll run one of these days. So that will be
some more scale content. I will mention that Don gets along well with
the NG guys, attends the various meets, and I think most have supported
his magazine.
I've also written a few product reviews on some of the smaller items
that come his way (the concept is that the writer/photographer gets to
keep the product afterward--in this way the magazine gets the article,
the writer gets some benefit and the magazine is out nothing and the
product get's promoted). With that in mind I keep waiting for a neat RR
0-6-0 engine to arrive for a review but I guess that isn't happening
except in my dreams!
One should also remember that Don, who is roughly my age or should I say
aged, has been doing this a long time, but only he knows how much longer
he'll want to publish.

Modeling Guide Summer Sale Ends July 3
Both publications are still going strong. How did you get that
idea from Bob's ad? Scenery Unlimited and Heimburger House
Publishing do very well, as Don works hard at his businesses.
