The short distance from the mid point of a chord to the arc of the curve is
the middle ordinate. It's pretty common to field calculate a curve radius from
the M.O. and chord length but if you don't have a program in your computer it's
still easier to just draw it out full S scale size and see what it measures or
if preliminary planning draw it out at 1/2 inch or 1 inch equals one foot scale
and scale it with a drafting compass or dividers. ..DaveBranum
