Your note reminds me of the old AF Boy's Club videos showing the testing
of AF steam engines going around circles of track. I would imagine that
took place in a not-so-secret facility in New Haven.
And yes that packaging was a bit strange. But I also remember Don
sending me photo samples and every time we had something broken or
dislodged on those samples.

Evidence - During testing of about 200 locos at the secret SHS
facility in NJ and after the locos had been converted to the Tsunami
sound chip. The test facility included an oval of track of said track.
As previously stated, the blind middle drivers helped, and though a
clicking noise could be heard (when the sound wasn't too loud!), close
observation saw the wheels drop off and then regain the top of the track.
I also learned how to unpack/repack that awful (in my opinion)
packaging :-)
