David,
The wood box/reefer kits are heavy enough as they are to track well. I
wouldn't worry about adding weight. If anything, I've always thought they are
a little top heavy and would recommend using metal trucks rather than lighter
plastic trucks to offset that a bit.
I've used both CA and epoxy with good success. I use the thicker CA for almost
anything. You do need to be aware of one trick when using CA. If the kits are
older the wood is probably pretty dry. One coat of CA will not bond the wood
well. The CA seems to be overly absorbed into the wood leading to a weak bond.
I smear CA on both surfaces to be joined, and hold them together for a few
seconds. I then pull the surfaces apart and give the CA a few seconds to
set-up. You don't want to wait for the CA to be 100% dry just give it a chance
to be drawn into the wood. Re-apply your CA and glue the parts together as
you normally would. You will now have a very strong bond.
I have not had any problems CA'ing wood to metal but epoxy might be a better
choice if you are concerned with the strength of the bond.
Before you glue anything to resin, make sure your resin parts are super clean.
Good luck.
