It is likely that the 2013 convention will be in the northeast. However, that
does NOT preclude a group or individual for making a bid for conventions beyond
2013! ( though I think there are already a couple of suspects, nothing has been
cast in concrete, as far as I know ). While conventions CAN be put together
on short notice, it is much better if a couple of years' effort is given to
them to ensure best rates, best tours, and best support at the venue
(registration, clinics and contests, etc.). It also allows for folks to plan
and budget their time and money to attend -- as much as anyone can do that
these days...

Being a realtor, John, you probably know your territory pretty well. And even
though your nearest known S scale person is 60 miles away, that is close by
western standards, not to mention that the Great Lakes area (I consider
Illinois as part of that since it borders Lake Michigan) is rife with S scale
adherents. There is little doubt that you could draw well from the entire
mid west and reasonably well from the northeast and OK from the south. Us
western guys are iffy no matter where a convention is held <grin>. What you
need to do is keep in mind what folks might like to see while in the area,
other than each other. The Dearborn convention proved that the tours DON'T
have to be train related to be good.

For anyone who wants to know more about putting on a convention, contact Walt
Jopke, the NASG convention chair. I believe his email is [email protected] .

Sure would like a central location, like say, my town. Being new to S, don't
know where previous conventions have been.
