There has been quite the response to the grab iron idea. Very cool - thanks for the support. I also learned that for the grab iron 22" center to center is very common - not necessarily larger for express boxcars only. I may make a tree of just this item.
I just emailed my caster the photos to see what he thinks about supporting and feeding for casting. For the grab iron the "wire" is currently .022. I asked if I could reduce that to maybe .015 and still get good castings. We will see what happens.
