Hello JJ.....

You bet'cha you can do that. Yes! If everything works well with DC, it will
also work well with DCC -- with one possible exception. Sometimes wheels
passing over turnouts graze the open point and create a momentary short circuit.
With DC, the momentum of the train carries it along a bit and the short circuit
goes away quickly. In many cases, all you see is a short hesitation and most
folks do not pay much attention to it. With DCC, the same momentary short
circuit can sometimes cause a circuit breaker to trip and shut off the track
power. The only way to know if this will be a problem is to test it with DCC.

One way to prevent this problem is to use short-resistant turnouts which, simply
put, always have their point polarity the same as the adjacent stock rail. 
Another way to prevent the problem is to make sure both the track and the wheels
are gauged properly.
