No, Jim.  The S future is not AC.  

The only reason TMCC and DCS are AC compatible is because they were designed 
for a 3-rail world that has a lot of older product that ran on AC and there are 
some there who don't wan't to mess with command control or DC conversions.

Running either with Lionel's or MTH's system under conventional AC still 
results with the forward-neutral-revese-neutral senario.  Plus command equipped 
AC locomotives do not run as smooth under conventional control.

MTH will run under DC or DCC.  Lionel is working on DC and DCC compatibility.  
If either of these companies want to seriously deal with the scale market in 
ANY scale, they have to deal with DC and DCC.

That is the future.
