You did miss-read Bill; Jerry's layout is 223 feet of double track mainline - 2.7 scale miles. Your second statement about the layout being a "best thing" is spot on...
I'm not entirely sure but I believe "Marcway" is a reference to the White Oak turnouts Kelvin White used to supply.
