Bill,

Now I'm really confused about the expected price.

I'd like 2 but really need a little more pricing info.

thanks

I took the lead from a friend that is mostly a large scale kit manufacturer, and made a few S items about 3 years ago. At first I did not understand it but it makes sense to me now. What we are both doing is providing the unique items to build a car. In my case it is the PRR F33. Since I am a small time nobody to most other model related suppliers buying things like wire grab irons has to be at retail prices only increasing the end costs – for items you likely already own. Why buy couplers from me when seemingly everyone has their own preference? What couplers do I include. You would wind up buying a box of the “S Scale coupler variety pack” with a few flat car parts included! I am not getting involved in any of that.

If you want to freelance the car into something else it is going to cost you less than getting an all inclusive boxed kit. Slap some SHS trucks on it. It will be on the track for about $55.00. If you want to paint this car as (EGADS) New York Central you don’t have to buy the PRR decals I hope to make. I will still sell you the basic urethane body and floor – it does not matter to me.

Including the Buckeye trucks in the box might imply that I bought them from SSLS at a manufacturers discount. That could not me farther from the truth and was not something I ever considered once. Again my plan was to shine the spotlight on SSLS, get people visiting the new website and further possibly buying more things than just the trucks at full retail price. Companies don’t stay in business long or grow if **everyone** gets the “friend” discount!

5 shipping changes? No. It could have been 3 tops but will likely be 2 – 1 from me and 1 from SSLS. Decals will probably be in the box from me if you buy them.

What is the total cost of an F33 if you make it as the F33? I am not sure yet. The initial investment in the master pattern body and floor combined with the urethane casting was very reasonable so that was not a big risk for me. Up next are the RP detail parts which is where the real expense is. I think it is going to take 2 brass trees to make all of the detail parts. I am about to try a new company for my SLA printing that has much better prices than the company I have been dealing with so that helps greatly. I need to sell the bodies to fund the RP parts!

**Rambling ending here**… I hope to have the rest of the needed items to make my car a complete F33 available for about $30.00 but I am not guaranteeing that. I still don’t know if a pewter floor can be made even though that would be an optional additional charge item. I am not involved with getting the decals made.  Given the still bad economy I am trying my best to keep prices reasonable. With almost nothing new in rolling stock coming out in 2012 this will hopefully be available to be a Santa’s S Scale Stocking stuffer….

Thank You,
Bill Lane
