Hi Folks,
It is a great Friday here in the North Country, one more day reprieve from
winter. Last night was the first PPSSW meeting of the year, we visited Larry
Einerson's small switching layout but what may have been lacking in size was
made up for in quality. Larry is a heck of a model builder, I hope he gets
some photos of his work to share.
Backing long trains sounds like great fun. Any ground rules? I believe I
could back well over 100 cars eastbound out of Asuncion holding the mainline
along the river route until I reach Marilyn with the end of the train. I think
the lead into Marilyn would trip me up before I got the whole train in, so
might the top of the wye . Now these would all be ore cars, another point for
ground rules I guess. Anyway, this would be a crazy thing to do and that makes
it a prime project for the Pines and Prairie guys. It would be a great way to
waste an afternoon when something positive could be done. Considering we waste
most of out meeting time....
Many years ago, we pulled eighty some cars with a couple of Overland SD40-2's
and 38-2 mid-train power. This was a mixed freight and it took some messing
around to make it work. I recall that wasted about four hours then.
In truth, I don't have much positive to show for the last couple months, that
may be why such a time waster is interesting. More truth is I should be
getting real things done. I hope everyone is healthy and happy. I am just
going to keep slacking, I like the action of it.
Ken
