Yesterday, I traveled to York, PA for the Fall TCA meet. Since I'm not a Flyer
collector, my tour of the member halls was quick. I concentrated on the dealer
halls looking for stuff I could use on my scale layout. Here's a short report
on my experiences.

The Lionel booth had a pilot version of the Cylindrical Hopper. It was an
unpainted body and there were no trucks or wheelsets to check out. However, you
could tell from the body that it will be a nice model when they get it
released. There was also a pilot body of the SD70 and it likewise looked like a
winner.

There was nothing yet from the MTH booth. Just down from them was the SHS
booth. They had a sign saying "End of the Line Sale". There was a nice deal on
hoppers and cabooses, but little else in rolling stock. They had some loose
SW1's and I picked up a CNJ switcher and a dummy to go along with it. Don threw
in a bag of scale wheels for me. Don and Robin looked happy to be retiring from
the business because of all the problems with Sanda Kan, etc. It was sad,
though, to see the end of an era. I wish them the very best as they enjoy
retirement.

I picked up some scale lumber from Hunter Line. They had quite a few S scale
bridge kits and a full selection of Kappler ties as well as S scale stripwood
parts.
Doug Peck had a booth with lots of S scale products. K & P Brick & Building Co.
had a booth. They had a full array of Lehigh Valley Models kits. They had a
built up three part mine on display along with several completed S products.
However, it was O scale. They took some of the original S kits and "blew them
up" to cover the O market. I picked up a neat little kit of the same
transformer that is part of the mine kit.

All in all, I still think that the TCA meet can be rewarding for the S scaler
to attend and hope to continue to go. It will be sad to not see SHS there,
though.
