James, I can tell you with confidence that the DCC contoller is that is
scheduled for the SD70's (at least the NS Heritage units) will allow the
locomotive to run on DC, DCC, AC or TMCC/Legacy with no modification, switches
to throw or rewiring.
I've tried it, I've seen it work in a Beta test unit.
That said, It's kind of a non issue now without scale wheels. I don't think
too many Flyer guys are into DCC and if Lionel logic holds true, DCC
compatibility will be dropped after the first run of NS Heritage SD70's.
