You are correct.  I produce what is reserved plus have extra parts on hand
for the inevitable "last minute order" or unexpected (but appreciated)
dealer re-orders.  Once that run is done, I move on to the next one.  I
operate NO DIFFERENTLY than any other manufacture in this respect.
Regardless of scale, when an item is announced and ready for reservation, if
you don't act then, you're outta luck.  Then the only outlet is eBay and
train shows but that's a shot in the dark.

 

Inventory is expensive to maintain so I standardize between kits as much as
possible.  Unique items, such as decals, are "one and done".
