DS 4-4-1000 was a continuation of the VO 1000 through 1947. In 1948, Baldwin
replaced the 8-cylinder version with the shorter 6-cylinder turbo model that
later became the S-12.

A VO 1000 could be made from two S-12 shells and a LOT of extra work.
