Hi Folks,
A quick check of my copied articles for old MR's indicates that the
pike sized passenger trains articles started in November of 1980. The lead
photo shows the Washington section of the National Limited in the early days of
Amtrak. One PC E8 and a coach. (Beat that!) The second article was in
January of 1981, and it had post-Amtrak trains. It included the Peoria Rocket
and the Quad CIties Rocket for Jim. The October, 1987 issue had "Steam Powered
Pike Sized Passenger Trains". The October, 1989 issue had "Pike Sized Steam
and Diesel Passenger Trains". I think there may have one more in the series,
but the trains didn't interest me, so I didn't get the issue. A couple weeks
ago I picked up a free back issue, that mentioned an article contest for a pike
sized passenger train. I have a vague recollection of that contest. Maybe
that is the fifth article I think I remember. I'd have to check when they said
the winners were to be published. More details on request.
