Hi All,
I don't mean to bore you but...
I have been really getting into ALCO/MLW S2 switchers lately. It says on page
62 of the new Canadian National Diesel book VLM 1, in the caption about Central
Vermont 7919 ALCO S2 that after 1944 the cabs were made of welded construction.
Is this true? I have shots of S2's made afterwards and the cabs look as
though they have rivets. Are these really spot welding shots?
Also the OMI and Railmaster S2's have walkways over the top intake at the front
of the hood that span the whole width. Any shots I have seen show the walkway
(running board?) to be a regular boxcar width. Does anyone know why the models
were produced this way? Was the full width only on the earliest S2's and the
manufactures simply used the original drawings?
Thanks for you help and sorry if my nomenclature is off.
cheers,
Andy Malette
