Attached (HOPEFULLY) are photos of a trio of just completed CB&Q BUDD
Gallery commute cars (Chicago Bi-levels). As the story goes, the
Friendly Espee borrowed the set of BUDD cars from the CB&Q to compare
with their own Pullman-Standard built Gallery Cars. The SP's aged
arch-roofed commute cars were in need of replacement and this set was
sent west from Chicago and over Donner pass for Espee management to
inspect and test before placing an order for more Gallery Cars. The
FM Train Master (normal power on the Bay Area commutes) did the head-
end honors on the dead-head trip west over Donner Pass while later the
FM HH-12-44 switched the cars out for inspection.

These are three custom-built cars that I just finished building using
"stacked" AM body shells and "special order" The Supply Car BUDD
passenger car kits. I'm guessing that these are the only BUDD Gallery
cars ever built in S scale. They were built on kind of a bet that,
most of my S friends thinking they couldn't be done. These cars are
proof that a little creative thinking goes a long way in S scale.
