I'm attaching a series of images showing the various stages of construction, per your request. I may do an article on this project down the road. I had to build one "pilot" car first, as every step of the way was breaking new ground for me. The two American Models shells were cut in half (using my Dremel and a saw blade from MicroMark), the top/roof shell just below the rivet line and the lower shell at the top of the windows. Then they were glued together together with Zap-a-Gap. The future window areas were then cut out (very important to get this measurement right!). I had the ends custom milled by The Supply Car, as BUDD ends are not normally necessary nor included in their kits. These BUDD cars had hugh electrical conduit piping on each end as delivered. I used copper wire to replicate them. The ends were then glued to the shells, everything was re-measured and I then attached the sides and fluting, as per a normal BUDD car kit. The underbody detail is unique to these cars as there are two ICE A/C units and two propane tank holders and two very large battery boxes per car. These are models of the first coach Gallery cars #700-702 and they lack any ASPW water tanks (used only in the "toilet cars"). I used BTS brass brake and generator sets and Mid-Century resin A/C and propane holder and battery box parts. The trucks are American Models sprung 41-N-11 trucks with BTS brass torsion bars added. The stock AM brake cylinders were relocated to the proper end of the truck and placed in the upper left position unique to these cars. All in all it, was a fun and challenging project.
