Although both truck sets are very nice, they are quite different, in both
the way the side frames are attached to the
bolsters, and the SSA side frames have raised lettering, whereas the PRS's do
not. The PRS's came with plastic wheel
 sets; the SSA's are metal.

PRS offered three kinds of trucks under the box cars: AAR cast steel sideframe
trucks with spring planks- these were the
first style available and were typically preassembled by John because of the
difficulty involved; National B-1 trucks and
ASF A-3 Ride Control trucks- these came later and used a notched stud snapped
into the truck bolster, which provided
equalization in addition to far easier assembly, while a lower parts count may
have reduced the cost as well.

DPH had tooled their own ASF A-3 Ride Control truck prior to purchasing PRS
from John. There are different casting
marks on these compared to the PRS ASF A-3. They use the same basic
sideframe-bolster connection; IIRC, Ron may
have said the same fellow cut the tools. The upcoming SSA PRR 2D-F8/ARA Y
truck is also similar in this respect.

PRS originally had plastic wheelsets, but later put in other makes of metal
wheelsets. I know that when John used SHS
wheels, they were shorter and consequently offered too loose of a fit. NWSL
wheels were fine.

Thank you Earl, that explains things quite nicely.
