Hi Ed, I can read the posts, but not reply to the group as de little
fuhrer still has me locked out, but you are totally correct on your Lionel
facts. Lionel O stuff is right up there with Atlas O in quality and
prototypical realism, if they make the same stuff for S that they make in O
we'll be very happy with it.The proto 48 guys even use the 40 foot PFE ice
reefers for P48 models and everyone knows how picky those guys can be :>)

Thanks, Dave, for your commentary. Good luck negotiating with the little
fuhrer. I think he has relaxed a bit lately so discussing things with him
might be worthwhile. Things sometimes have a way of working out gradually
over time as the heat of the day dissipates.

And, to make another point, there is at least one O fella that has a
thriving business taking Lionel O (gauge, 3-rail) freight car bodies and
replacing the trucks with ATLAS O trucks and selling them to the 2-rail O
scale crowd. The O scale crowd is happy to have them. It appears the O
Lionel trucks are not wonderful and the ATLAS trucks are better. If Lionel
ever makes a new O freight car truck, this guy is outta business quick. It
would appear (to me) that Lionel is sort of moving in the same general
direction of greater realism with the S market as well. It will take some
time, but if we do not upset the apple cart with gripes/complaints, the
train might actually reach the station. If the train stops short of the
station, the resulting walk we take to the platform might be quite short.

Optimistically.....Ed L.
