Canon G15--arguable the best compact camera made--unquestionably in the top five--and I found one under the tree!!!

It also has a movie mode that is exceptional. When in doubt of your lighting, turn the dial to EXR and the camera will do the rest. New, I have $500.00 bucks invested. Now, several years later, the price is down to$250.00, that is a buy. (see attached image) Of course any camera in this price range will do a great work for you. I just like the size and feel of this camera for everyday use. I call it a "pocket camera ." My other cameras go up in size, eventually to my Canon DSLR.
