What camera to purchase for model railroad DI?
Man, with $500.00, you sure could buy any digital camera you please and get
good results.

However, so much depends on what you know about photography and also what
pictures you plan to take.
It also depends on your computer knowledge, to use after taking your digital
images.

Anyway, I have three cameras, and it depends on what camera I need to use, for
whatever project I'm on.
My number one camera [The one I use the most] is a pocket sized Fujifilm F 550
EXR. http://www.reviewgist.com/fuji-finepix-f550exr
It doesn't get the best reviews, but I can honestly tell you it gets me great
shots indoors as we ll as outdoors. It also has a movie mode that is
exceptional. When in doubt of your lighting, turn the dial to EXR and the
camera will do the rest. New, I have $500.00 bucks invested.
Now, several years later, the price is down to$250.00, that is a buy. (see
attached image)

Of course any camera in this price range will do a great work for you.
I just like the size and feel of this camera for everyday use.
 I call it a "pocket camera ."
My other cameras go up in size, eventually to my Canon DSLR.

Perhaps you have some good trusty camera buddies to help you along?
Wishing you well on this new adventure.
