While I appreciate the discussions about the exteriors of these units; may I go a different route. A-M used the AAR type B Alco road trucks, the same as the RS-3 and the FA. Some years ago I started work to convert to the correct AAR type A yard trucks, the same as under the SHS SW- units. Truck mounts were done, but I have yet to find a suitable motor and finish grinding out the frame areas to accept a motor--I have feared weakening the frame in the process. My medical limits have now shelved the project. Has anyone else attempted this conversion, and if so, how did you do it. Thanks Much.
