Hello David....

Nothing on the S SIG web site is hidden from anyone. The entire S SIG web
site is open to the general public without any fees or dues of any kind.
Lots of e-zine articles, some product reviews, layout photos, modeling
articles and so forth. Not to mention THE S SCALE FORUM which is the
conversational chat room dedicated to scale topics only.

To participate in THE S SCALE FORUM, it is necessary to join the S SIG which
is a painless procedure. No dues, no fees, no membership in any
organization is needed, quick and easy, etc. It only takes a minute or two
and once done, you have access to all the messages both current and past.

The reason for this sign-up procedure is to prevent SPAM (none so far!) and
to make sure we are all who we say we are. Your real name is required and
only needs to be entered once. After that, every message contains your name
so that typing it in every time is not needed.

You also get to control things like the daily digest, or a weekly digest or
a monthly digest. You can control the time of day when your digest is sent
out. I live in California and roll out of bed at about 8:00 am. So the
time for my digest is 8:30 am which gives me enough time to get my hot
chocolate and settle down in front of the computer. I find a really current
and up-to-date digest waiting for me on most days.

Not as many messages as with some Yahoo Groups, but each one has meaty
content and is most helpful with various modeling projects. Less bantering
and fewer personal (to only one person) side conversations. Try it and
maybe you will like it.

Here is an old URL which might serve as a hot link:

www.Sscale.org

Again, the current URL is: Sscale.org

If you still have difficulty entering THE S SCALE FORUM, I would suggest you
contact the S SIG web master who will personally walk you through the
process. Over the telephone or via email -- whatever works best for you.
He is there to help you. Yes, you will need a password. Sorry about
that.

I anticipate several messages from other folks about the Lionel Y-3
converted-to-scale loco which ran on my layout for three evenings this past
weekend - a total of 9 hours of near constant running. You can read about
their impressions when their messages are posted. One fellow spoke about
possibly doing a new product review of the scale-converted Y-3. He was
impressed enough to publically state he would prefer to buy a Lionel
converted Y-3 in comparison to a brass import from Korea. That statement
blew me away. I was not expecting anything like that.

In closing, I think that Lionel has now reached the position of being the #1
provider of S scale locos in 2013. On my layout, we ran the second
production run of the U33c which is improved over the first production run
(new gear ratio for slower speeds and better detailing). We also ran an
engineering sample of the SD-70 and heard the sound and bells and motor
noises. Not to mention the Y-3 hauling a long train of black hopper cars
loaded with coal. All of these locos can be made to run on DCC and with the
addition of some momentum will run very smoothly at slow speeds.

For those who want to see a video clip about the Y-3, I would suggest you go
here:

Any serious S scale guy who chooses to ignore the Lionel offerings really
has his head in the sand. I hate to say it that way, but it really is the
case. While you may not want to purchase any of the specific Lionel locos
yet produced, it certainly is worth your time to stay in tune with Lionel
products and to understand in detail their future offerings. There is no
doubt they are moving in 'our' direction a little bit more day after day.

See you at the S Sig.....

Cheers....Ed Loizeaux
