I converted one years ago to see how they looked and it came out pretty
nice. I can't find it now or I'd post a photo. I can't recall exactly how Bob
said to do it but I cut the HO switch apart and glued the parts on a plastic
sheet cut to S switch shape.Procedure was something like this: Cut the frog and
the two rails at the heel end in one unit by cutting the ties somewhere near
their center(leaving the partial ties attached to the frog rails), cut the
running rails off with their partial ties attached, part way between the frog
and points cut the closure rails so a piece of extra rail can be added for
length( also cut the running rails so length can be added to them). Draw out
the rail plan for S gauge and glue all the cut parts into their proper location
then add additional new ties and the extra length rail where needed. Cut some
filler tie sections and glue them in between the ends of the cut ties to make
them look continous.
IIRC I lengthened the point throw bar by adding some plastic to the center
then melting in a piece of brass wire to tie the pieces together.
The whole operation is pretty simple to do, and once one starts to cut the
switch apart the changes needed become obvious. After doing one I kinda decided
that I could hand build a switch from scratch for about the same amount of
effort but I did like the results....DaveBranum
