<*>[Attachment(s) from Robert_Hogan included below] For a Southern Pacific guy, I've sure spend a lot of time lately with cars of only the first half of that name, the Southern. The latest full passenger train I've finished is a model of the "as-built" post war Southern Railway's Royal Palm. Several list members suggested that I post the attached photos to show the results. These are The Supply Car basic kits with Mid-Century and BTS underbody details added, plus AM 41-N-11 sprung trucks. Included in the train are: ACF Baggage/RPO, ACF Baggage/Dorm, ACF 52 Seat Coach, PS 52 Seat Coach, BUDD Diner, PS Lounge/Diner, two PS 10/6 Sleepers and the boat-tail PS Sleeper/Lounge/Obsy "Royal Palm". The photos should give you a good idea of the ACF and PS kits vs. the all BUDD California Zephyr photos already posted.
Back for the Chattanooga NASG Convention I built the 1970's version of this same train. Quite a difference. The Obsy "Royal Palm" had been converted by the SR into an 11 Bedroom Sleeper for that consist. All roofs were painted black and the SR colored logo appeared at the door end of each car. All in all, an interesting experience for a "west coast" modeler. The cars do look a tad out of place on my Sierra- Nevada themed layout, however. Enjoy!
