You hit the nail on the head there. At the recent Springfield show, some modular setups were using smartphones and tablets as wireless throttles. Even if you have to buy an old Android phone or iPod/iPhone, plus the application, it's cheaper than the commercial wireless throttles from the DCC vendors.
