Hi Michael...

Sure was 'of interest' to me.  Thank you VERY much.  

My son, an NS conductor, tells me these locos rarely if ever run by themselves. 
 They are almost always in lashups of two or three and with the short nose 
always outward so that turning is not needed.

Heritage painted units usually run with NS black units.  It would be very rare 
to have two heritage units in the same lashup.  From an operational 
perspective, heritage units are not treated any differently than NS black 
units.  But the rail fans obviously have a great time watching the heritage 
units.

Now I need to go research how the NYC ran these SD70s in 1948.  Public 
information on that particular matter is a bit sparse.  (grin)
